Alexey Shchebet, born in 1984, is a Californian painter and clothing designer who lives and creates in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Inspired by nature, Alexey creates aboriginal feeling paintings with clay. Clay has been a human art partner for thousands of years all around the World. It reminds us of who we are and where we all came from to the modern digital world. Clay is an international language. It’s understandable at high tech, loft, and plain Wabi-Sabi interiors. Alexey brings up philosophical human questions in his art. “The Artists Of Sinking Atlantis Are Saving Honey Bees For Us” is a good example of this.
Clay changes its pigment depending on the angle of the sun on the pictures. The yellow clay Alexey uses in his art was taken from gold pit. It shines at sunset. That’s how Mother Nature talks to us.
Alexey believes that clothing is a personal armor that’s why he pays lots of attention to details in customized orders. All details are important for a particular client .
Inspired by wild horses, Alexey has created a limited edition clothing called “Free Spirit”.
Everything is temporary in our fragile world.
That’s why clay paintings on clothing is a new concept. Use it for special occasions only and keep art untouched or use it everyday and be a part the of alchemy process when time polishes and transforms the fragile physical item into a patina peice. Now you are the coauthor of Art. Either way such clothing is an art piece which jumps off the gallery wall and goes along the streets. Walk with it- Play with it.
You can meet Alexey on the streets of Carmel with his camera. Being in passion with photography Alexey travels around the world and collects photo stories.
His works have been published on National Geographic, Vogue Italia and International contests in Europe.
In 2020 he got honorable mention at the Center For Photographic Art competition.  The photograph "Calm" was included into the 2020 International Juried Exhibition Online Gallery and into the exhibition catalog.
